Summer Activities with Kids on the Treasure Coast

So here's the deal - I am a photographer, but I am also a mom! I love planning fun adventures for my family and summer is the perfect opportunity to try something new. Not to mention, it can get a bit boring for the kiddos when they just sit at home all day long. I have complied a list of daily free (or almost free) activities for you to enjoy with your family. In addition, I've mapped out some fun "Day Trip" ideas for you based on the proximity of local events. I share this with you in hopes of you enjoying some fun in the sun (and the a/c) with your little ones this summer. Please keep in mind that establishments change their promotions daily. I highly suggest calling ahead to confirm the special offers before making plans. Happy adventures.....

Plan a Day
Monday
Spend your Monday in Tradition and SLW. Start the day off with a trip to Michael’s for a hands on craft experience (you must preregister). Afterward, head over to Dos Amigos where kids eat free. With your fully belly, plan to spend the afternoon in the air conditioning at SuperPlay where bowling, laser tag & mini golf are just $2/game.

Tuesday
Pack a picnic lunch in your cooler and head on up to Vero for the day. Enjoy a free movie at the Majestic Theatre (just bring a canned food item for each member of your party). Afterward, walk across the parking lot to Vero Bowl where kids bowl free and shoe rental is just $2. By this point you’ve worked up an appetite, so head over to Humiston Park where you can enjoy your picnic lunch. The kids will love the playground and after you’ve eaten you can enjoy the beach, or just go for a stroll on the boardwalk. Kilwin’s is right across the street and makes for a sweet end to a fun (an almost free) day!

Wednesday
Begin your day at Carmike in SLW with a $4 movie deal. Afterward, head over to Duffy’s or Moe’s where kids eat free with each adult meal purchased. From there, make your way to the Tradition Fountains. Plan to bring a soccer ball and work up a sweat on the green area. You can also head right down the block to the Bedford Park Playground. Once everyone is thoroughly exhausted, take them to Tutti-Frutti in the square for a refreshing treat.

Thursday
Pack a picnic lunch in your cooler and take a trip down to Palm Beach Gardens. Start your day at Cobb Theatre in Downtown Gardens with a free movie. From there, head over Playmobil Fun Park where your child can explore and create with endless Legos. Your next stop will be the Burns Road Playground where you can enjoy your picnic lunch at one of the best playgrounds in the area. At this point you’ll probably be pretty warm, so walk right over to the Aquatic Center where you children will enjoy the water park and pool. If getting wet is not on your radar, start heading back up north and return to Downtown Gardens where children up to age 10 can play on Thursdays after 3pm.

Friday
Pack a picnic lunch and head on up US 1, making your way to Ft. Pierce for a day filled with fun and sun. Begin your day at St. Lucie Lanes where kids bowl free. From there, take a drive to the Ft. Pierce and stop at Museum Pointe Park for some playground and picnic fun. After lunch, cool off at the aquarium. Once you’ve visited all the exhibits, go put your new knowledge to test out in the ocean. Make sure the kids have packed plenty of beach toys and their snorkels so they can thoroughly enjoy the calm, shallow waters of the South Causeway Park. Feeling tired and need to recharge? Drive right down the road to Manatee Island and enjoy ½ price appetizers from 3-6 as your light dinner before heading home. The views at the restaurant are beautiful, and if you land a seat outdoors you will likely enjoy some live music.

Plan to spend the afternoon and late evening down on US 1 and Martin County. Start your adventure with an afternoon trip to St. Lucie Lanes where kids bowl free. From there, grab some dinner at Steak n Shake where kids eat free for every $8 spent (this means you must get yourself a milkshake to meet the $8 minimum – sorry!) J After dinner, head down to Sailfish Splash where admission is $10 from 6-8pm. At 8pm, the movie will begin showing as you float on a tub in the main pool.
